Name: Vexy!

Yahoo!: mezzo.elle
Roleplaying Experience: Seven or eight years now.
Activity Level: Fairly active, as long as college doesn't get in the way.
The Character
Full Name: Kassidy Maura O'Brien- Williams
Nicknames: Kassie, Kas, Mrs. Williams
Age: 28
Side: Good, mostly because she's fairly set in her ethics (unlike her manipulative little sister) and her sense of good and bad. Plus, she works for the DA.
What are they? Kassidy is what's known as a "counteragent", something that was passed down through her father. Something, though it's not known what, causes her to subconsciously give off a psionic aura that cancels out certain supernatural abilities: her sister's siren voice, for instance.
Occupation: Lawyer for the District Attorney's office, though she's considering running for public office.
Physical Characteristics
Height: 5’5"
Weight: 135 lbs
Build: Medium height, medium weight. She's not dedicated enough to her appearance to spend hours upon hours at the gym, so she's not one of those perfectly toned little nymphs. She's just... average.
Eyes: A bright, vivid blue, that usually seem icy and distant.
Hair: Naturally, it's the same distinct red as her sister's- it runs in the family. However, she's been known to dye it different colors from time to time, mostly to make sure there's little suspicion that she's related to Lynn O'Brien.
Skin color: Again, the same extremely fair skin as the rest of her family- she, however, freckles far easier than most. Though she covers them with makeup, her face is covered with a permanent smattering of freckles, particularly across her nose and cheekbones.
Face
Distinguishing Features: Kas has a rather long, oval-shaped face with a distinct jawline and high cheekbones. Her face is sculpted as opposed to soft, full of angles that border on sharp. Her nose is long and aristocratic and hooks downward slightly, and her rather thin lips turn downward naturally into an almost-frown, giving her a severe overall look.
Dress?
Favorite clothing: Black pantsuits, be they pinstriped, plain, or chalk-striped. Her favorites are the type that just hint at curves without showing off blatantly that she's a woman. She had to fight through an Ivy League law school: which, despite the current time, is still a good-old-boy's world. Often times, she'll wear men's shirts underneath her suit jackets. Outside of court, she loves a nice, comfortable pair of jeans and a loose t-shirt: just something she can relax in and not worry about looking professional or sexy or anything like that.
Least favorite clothing: Anything overtly girly, tight, or short. She's very much a tomboy and has been since she was a child- she doesn't even own suits that have skirts. She owns a grand total of one formal dress and one cocktail dress- the rest of her closet is pantsuits, jeans, and t-shirts. And forget about lingerie- plain colors all the way for her.
Jewelry: She doesn't really wear jewelry. The only thing she does wear is a thin anklet with a single bead on it, engraved with some sort of ancient symbol that she got passed down to her from her father (the bead, not the chain).
Style (Elegant, shabby…): Androgynous. She's not very girly, but not the scuffy sort of tomboy, either- she's mostly a professional woman who prefers not to dress in skirts and such.
Intellectual/Mental/Personality Attributes and Attitudes
Intelligence Level: Extremely high. She did her undergraduate at Stanford and got her degree in law from Princeton, and did it without manipulating her professors or paying anyone off.
Biggest Weakness: Her temper. Kas has a very, very strong sense of right and wrong, and if something comes through that she thinks of as "wrong", then she gets quiet upset. If she does get angry enough, she'll throw a punch or two. Her fuse is also very short for things that bother her and nine times out of ten she gets in over her head. She doesn't think before she speaks when she's angry and often times says things she doesn't mean.
Skills:
-Logic. Her brain pieces together things quickly, and she has a knack for presenting things in a manner that's understandable to both experts and the everyday person on a jury.
-Empathy. While not an "empath" in the supernatural sense of the word, she can read facial expressions and body language, and can usually comfort people quite well.
Downfalls:
-Kassidy has a superiority complex, in a sense. She's very hardworking and has earned what she has and she tends to resent those that haven't.
-Her quick judgement. She tends to judge people at first sight, particularly if they seem snobbish or lazy.
-When she does hate something, she often hates it so strongly that it gets in the way of her everyday life.
Strengths:
-She's hardworking. It's very difficult to interrupt her once she's focused on something; be it a book, a case, or a tangent she's started to ramble on about.
-She's quick to think on her feet.
-She's got good people skills, and has made connections- good ones- through quite a few people.
-Despite her temper and quick judgement, she has a good heart and gets genuine satisfaction from justice and helping others.
Flaws:
-She sometimes loses patience for people less intelligent than her.
-Her pride in her work sometimes seeps into the realm of arrogance.
-She can't stand being interrupted- be it while reading, thinking, or speaking; and she often gets quite angry at those who do interrupt her.
-Come nights and weekends, she's an extremely heavy drinker. Often times she'll go out on Friday and wake up on Saturday with no idea where she is or who she's with, and with a hefty hangover to boot.
-She doesn't take criticism very well.
-When she's made up her mind about something, it is made up. Only if you give her evidence that SHE can find no alternative explanation for will she change her mind. It's an asset in court cases, but pretty irritating everywhere else.
-She has trouble letting things go. The memories of her (now dead) husband haunt her, causing her to fear any sort of relationship with men unless she's drunk. She hates thinking about him, but it happens despite herself. And, even though she hates thinking about him, she can't bring herself to change her name back to O'Brien; and she goes by O'Brien-Williams or just Williams.
Oddities/Habits:
-She twists her hair around her finger when she's bored.
-She chews gum almost obsessively- it's rare to see her without a stick of gum (except if she's in court).
-Despite what it seems, she likes mess- it makes her feel comforted; plus, she's one of those people who can remember where everything is.
-She changes her hair serially- whenever something goes wrong in her life, she either cuts her hair or dyes it or gets extensions.
-The corners of her lips twitch downward when she's extremely upset.
-She bites her fingernails.
Likes:
-cats and kittens (she has a little black and white cat named Pokey)
-keeping criminals off the streets as a lawyer for the prosecution
-pedicures
-oranges
-Maine lobster
-snakes
-a good old cheeseburger and fries

History: ((Note- small parts of this are taken from Evelyn's backstory; just the history of how their parents met.))
Kassidy, the first-born, came into the world on March 15th, 1980, to two very relieved first-time parents. It had been a long journey for the two of them and their first child was a beautiful baby girl.
Her mother, Dr. Kelly McLaughlin-O'Brien, was a dentist, working full time up until the near the time of her birth. She had met Evelyn's father (Joseph O'Brien) at a convention when she was 34- he was a salesperson for dental chairs, and, by her own reminiscence, "a rather greasy but stubborn guy". Her mother often told the story of how, when first approached by Joseph, she turned him down immediately and told him to clean up a bit before he could even speak to her.
Two years later, after months of searching, a much more refined Joseph turned up on Kelly's doorstep, and the rest was, as they say, was history.
Except when it wasn't. See, the whole reason Kelly fell in love with Joseph was because her siren song didn't work on him- something that Evelyn was never told. The two were genuinely and naturally in love, thanks to Joseph's little neutralizing ability.
And then, just before Kassidy turned two years old, Evelyn was born.
From the time they were small, Kassidy couldn't stand Evelyn and vice-versa. The two screamed and yelled and fought and wouldn't share toys at all. Kassidy didn't understand why Evelyn seemed to get whatever she wanted from everybody who wasn't their parents, just by asking for it; whereas Kassidy had to work for it. She knew by age five she wasn't as pretty as Evelyn, so she was sure as hell determined to be smarter.
Things only got worse when school started. Kassidy took pride in being a straight-A, honor roll, National Honor Society student; but so was Evelyn. The thing that bothered Kassidy was that Evelyn manipulated her teachers into giving her the grades rather than actually working for them. Her intelligence was the one thing that Kassidy had that Evelyn didn't. Plus, the fact that Evelyn could charm gaggles of guys to heckle her or throw a few punches at her didn't help. But Kassidy struck back- she started horrible, terrible rumors, put spiders and other things from the science lab into her locker... She couldn't wait for the day she left for good.
Her father, eventually, came to the decision that they had to separate the two in order for anyone to get any peace in the house. So he told Kassidy to pack her bags and get ready to go, leaving the mother and house she'd known for nearly eighteen years.
While she was sad to leave her mother, it was a day of relief for Kassidy. No more Evelyn ruining her life, no more stunning sister to be compared to. She was happy to move out to California- to, ironically enough, a city called Shawl.
She graduated top in her class at the local high school, and immediately embraced the chance to go to Stanford. Before she left, however, her father gave her the precious bead she wears on her ankle and explained to her why she'd never gotten along with Evelyn- Evelyn was a siren, but her voice didn't work on Kassidy, because Kassidy was a "counteragent" to most supernatural powers; it all made sense.
During her third year at Stanford she met a man named Jason Williams. The two fell in love immediately- he was smart, funny, handsome, and quirky in all the right ways. They were married by the time she graduated and both started Princeton Law the next year.
Unfortunately, her happiness didn't last. In her second year at Law School- meaning they'd been married for only two years- she got a phone call, saying that her husband had collapsed suddenly and had been rushed to the hospital. When she got there, she was informed by the doctors that he had died about an hour before, in the ambulance. He'd had a massive aneurysm that had burst; meaning he'd bled into his brain and died almost immediately.
That was when the heavy drinking started. Somehow, she managed to keep her grades up, though they weren't as stellar as they once were; but nearly every night she'd sit alone in her apartment with her husband's picture and a bottle of wine. It was a miserable time and she was happy to return to Shawl once she graduated- she nearly dropped out of law school, but she knew that wasn't what Jason would have wanted.
Kassidy had been working for two or three years there under the District Attorney in Shawl when Evelyn showed up- and the competition was on again, this time in the courtroom.
The only time Evelyn seems to lose a case is when Kassidy is the opposing lawyer, something Kassidy tries to make sure happens as often as possible.
How does she fit? She works for the DA's office, so obviously she'll be at trials and will work with the detectives to gain evidence for the prosecution. Plus, there's the whole "sibling rivalry" thing.
