Roleplaying Experience: Been rp'ing for, oh, let's see...seven years now on various sites and in various formats. I admin sites on occasion as well.
Activity Level: I'm a total internet and rp'ing addict who isn't getting enough hours at work. Activity will not be a problem!
Favorite Book(s): I'm a big fan of Dean Koontz and Michael Crichton, and I read a ton of manga and totally random non-fiction as well (Everything from books about dinosaurs to historical accounts of the Titanic, I have literary ADD). All depends on the mood.
The Character
Full Name: Aki Kelso
Nicknames: Nothing that's savory to be repeating!
Age: 18
Side: Aki prides himself on remaining neutral at all times. It's best for his business, and he'll go to great lengths to make sure he doesn't appear biased to any side.
What are they? All human, though some people might argue otherwise!
Powers: None.
Occupation:Aki is a weapons dealer. He modifies and moves weaponry, mostly guns, and he'll get ahold of any weapon for you for the right price- though he draws the line at nuclear weaponry. Nothing that might shit him up along with everyone else.
Appearance: Aki looks like a girl. No, really. He's incredibly feminine, and he plays it up. He's hardly ever seen without smoky, dramatic eyeliner accenting his dark brown eyes, and his long, black hair falls to just past his shoulders and is usually spiked up in a rather extreme manner, as well as highlighted in blonde.
His clothes tend to fit like a second skin. He's very, very skinny, about 5'6 and not over 115 pounds soaking wet. In other words, he doesn't look as intimidating as his reputation makes him out to be (but that's because if you piss him off he'll shoot you in a painful place). He usually wears jeans and a t-shirt that cling snugly to him, and an assortment of jewelry that he throws in there to be flashy. He's pale, and has no interest in getting a Hollywood orange tan, because his skin is flawless and he'd like to keep it that way. He's incredibly obsessed with appearances, and won't conduct business unless his makeup and his nails are flawless.
Personality: Aki talks a lot. He feels the need to fill the silence at all times, and he'll ramble on for hours if you let him. Nonetheless he's quite charismatic, and it's often said that he could convince an Eskimo to buy a freezer. He's brilliant when it comes to making plans, and manipulating people and the system they're in to get what he wants. He never really grew out of childish selfishness- he's the most important thing in his own life, and as long as he's okay, he doesn't care about shit going on in the world.
He may be a bit of a con man, but he's also a man of his word. He'll manipulate you and trick you, but he has a great aversion to lying. He's very blunt; if he doesn't like you, he'll tell you to your face, then proceed to run business as usual. He compartmentalizes his life to a strange extreme, and he's very picky and organized, almost to the point of being obsessive about it.
He's cynical, expects the worst of people, and he thrives on sarcasm.
Likes: He loves books. Loves them. He can spend all day curled up on a chair in the library with a stack of books by him, though he rarely has the time. But his workshop is cluttered with books, among the grenade pins and boxes of bullets. And obviously, he loves guns. Another like of his is spending time with someone who he considers intellectually on the same level as him- in other words, snarky to an extreme.
Dislikes: Water (see fears). He absolutely hates liars- get caught lying to him and you'll lose a kneecap. Or two, if he's in a bad mood.
Strengths: Aki is manipulative. He knows how to work people to get exactly what he wants out of them without causing a fuss. He can read a person's personality well, he's incredibly fast, and when you put a gun in his hands, he's deadly.
Weaknesses: When it comes to brute strength, Aki loses hands down. He's stubborn and conceited, and refuses to admit when he's wrong. His temper gets him in trouble a lot, and when someone pisses him off, he can hold a grudge for an ungodly amount of time. He's self-centered, and there's no sob story that is going to make him more partial to you.
Fears: Aki has a crippling phobia of water. No one's quite sure where it came from, but it's definitely there- a steady rain can put him on edge, and a lake can make him freeze up entirely. He's determined to hide this fear in whatever way possible. Other than that, he's pretty darn fearless, which is more of a bad thing than a good thing.
History: Aki was born in LA, but he wasn't there for long; his mother left the hospital and didn't bother to take him along. And when they found her, she simply said that she didn't want a baby, and to find someone else to take him.
In contacting relatives, the hospital came across Aki's uncle, Thomas Kelso. Surprisingly enough, the reclusive man offered to take in the baby, though the hospital couldn't have known that his intentions were less than noble. After all, to any casual observer, Thomas Kelso was a computer programmer who worked from his home in Shawl.
What they couldn't have known was that Thomas Kelso was a well known weapons dealer in Shawl, and that he simply thought that if he got through the awkward baby stage, having a kid to run his errands and teach the simpler tasks could take a good amount of work off his own shoulders.
He obviously wasn't a great parent. It's a wonder Aki survived those first few years, with all the monumental parenting blunders and shortcuts Thomas took. But by the time Aki was school-age, he was a rather well adjusted child, surprisingly enough. He went off to public school every day, like every other kid, and came home to help his uncle make, store, and sell weapons to the highest bidder.
It seemed as though Thomas' plan was working. Aki loved the work, and under threat of severe bodily harm he kept his mouth shut about it.
Thomas started teaching Aki how to use a gun at this point. It became a kind of demented bonding activity to go out to the shooting range and try out the new products.
But even for such a worldly youngster, seeing murder and maiming on a regular basis took a toll on Aki. He started to withdraw, lash out, and Thomas wasn't about to have any of that. To pull the leash a little tighter, he took Aki out of public school, homeschooling him instead.
That was when Aki formed his real love for books. Rather than be cooped up all day working on the never-ending homework, he would escape to the library and stay there all day, losing himself in literature. But at the same time, he was learning more and more about his uncle's business.
By the time he was twelve, he'd noticed a change. Thomas was more on edge, more paranoid, and he was letting Aki in on a lot more than he'd used to. Aki began paying closer attention to what was going on with the "family business", which was easier said than done when he was going through his awkward teenage stages.
Thomas began giving Aki more responsibilities, like deliveries of the weapons, going out to meet business contacts to discuss deals, all between Biology and History and all that necessary teen stuff. Aki didn't make any friends, to say the least. It was hard enough when he'd begun to experiment with his appearance, but the fact that he was helping run a highly illegal business made it impossible to get close to anyone his own age.
Then, Thomas disappeared into thin air. Aki, being only 16 at the time, got a little panicked; but rather than hunker down and try to let the storm blow over, Aki stepped up. He took on all the business duties, made sure the clients had no idea anything was wrong on their end, he got deliveries made, took payments- and by the time Thomas reappeared a week later, no one knew any difference. It turned out that Thomas had just decided to take a vacation to Vegas and see how Aki would handle himself and the business.
The door was blown wide open. Aki was no longer 'the kid who helped out'- he became Thomas' right hand man, and the clients came to know and respect Aki just as much as Thomas, because what he said was law in the business. The few who spoke their doubts aloud found the rage of Thomas raining down on them, and found themselves weaponless, too.
It couldn't have happened at a better time. The day that Aki passed his GED, he came home to find that Thomas was gone. Figuring it was another one of his uncle's 'tests', Aki swiftly took over the business, smoothly moving everything into his own hands until his uncle's return.
Thomas Kelso never did return. It's been seven months to the day, and Aki's well aware of what likely happened to his father figure- he wasn't careful enough. And he's vowed that when he finds out who took advantage of that, the offender will lose every drop of blood, slowly.
How does he fit? Gangsters, police, and even regular citizens all have a need to arm themselves, and some have a need to obtain said weaponry in an untraceable manner. Aki's the go-to man.
Roleplay Sample: It was raining. As if the day couldn't have gotten any worse, it was raining.
Aki trudged on down the sidewalk, steel toed boots splashing up water from puddles even as he took advantage of every awning on every building as he passed. The sky rumbled in the distance as Aki scanned the number on the front of each building, counting in his head up to the one he was waiting to see.
There. That was the one. He thought back to the instructions and stepped into the alley, going to the side door and knocking twice. The door opened a crack, then swung open wider as the wild-eyed man inside recognized him.
"You're late."
"Get over it," Aki said, stepping past him. Finally, out of the rain. He dropped his heavy backpack on the pool table, ignoring the two men who were presently involved in a game on said table.
"Damnit, Treager, tell your girlfriend to get her shit off the table," one of them snapped, but his angry resolve weakened when Aki pulled two handguns out of his bag.
"I hope you appreciate this," he said, holding out one of the guns to Treager. The man took it, studying it closely.
"You work fast."
"Only because you paid me to make a rush of it."
"Where are the clips?"
Aki rolled his eyes, spinning the other gun idly in a well-manicured hand. "You know I don't hand off loaded weapons on a routine buy. They're in your PO box downtown."
Treager nodded, digging in his jacket and pulling out a rather large wad of cash. "You can count it if you want," he said, tossing it to Aki. Aki didn't bother, and instead tucked it inside his jacket, besides his own hidden handgun.
"You know better than to underpay," he pointed out, handing Treager the other gun and grabbing his bag from the table, where it had nearly left a puddle on the soft belt. But after that discussion, neither of the other two men felt the need to complain. "Tell Rutger I'll have his shotgun to him by Tuesday."
"Right, right," Treager said, giving Aki a dismissive wave. Aki's eyes narrowed, but he let the blatant disrespect go this time; he wanted to get home before the rain got worse. He ducked back out into the alley, ducking his head so the rain wouldn't hit his face and make his eyeliner run.
The rain kept falling steadily every step of the way home.
Any last words? Nope!
