A local tragedy has rocked Shawl: William Howard Townsend —mayor, beloved public figure, and longtime local philanthropist— was found dead in his uptown home. The police have released little information about the circumstances of his death.
He was a sprightly man and was a great proponent for minority rights. He was the major advocate of the sensational Law of Species Equality. It was long in coming, through many mayoral administrations, but Mayor Townsend perfected it. Commonly known as Supernatural Rights Law, it is officially known as the Declaration of Equality for All Citizens of Shawl Regardless of Species or Innate Ability. Early in his career, Townsend pushed this legislation through the Shawl City Council, and his illustrious political career blossomed from that moment on for thirty years.
The cause of death is as of yet unknown, but an interview with Chief Inspector Basil Dixon revealed that "anyone stupid enough to do this deserves to be incarcerated." Seeking to delve further into the mind of Mr. Dixon, our reporter was then banished from the Inspector's office and sent to the Morgue, where Dr. Bates declined to comment.
It is unclear who will be serving the remaining three years of Townsend's term.
