The Roleplayer
Name: Brandon. Brandy if you really want.
Age: 16
Contacts: weebitmental@hotmail.co.uk
Experience: About five years.
Activity Level: I’ll be on every day. My only hitch is that every other weekend I’m at my dad’s house, and he does not have a computer.
Graphics Ability: My graphics abilities are still in training. As of now, they won’t be much use. The only thing I could really confidently help with is avatars.
Favorite Book: Hmm…that’s hard…well, I enjoy the His Dark Materials books, the Discworld books, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Harry Potter books, The Magician’s Guild and the books that follow it…the list goes on…
Although, my favourite could quite possibly be Amy Tan’s Joy Luck Club.
Opinion on the Site so Far: It’s got real potential. There’s plenty of room for good storylines given the theme of the site. I just know that it’ll be fantastic.
The Character
Full Name: Jason Fabian Meade
Nicknames: Jason.
Age: 23
Side: Generally sided with the good guys. He’s an inspector in the Shawl.
What are they; Jason is a demon of some sort, although at a glance he could easily be mistaken for a human. He doesn’t really have many demonic powers, aside from his speed and his ability to smell emotions. The tiniest physical distances set him aside from the normal people.
Appearance:
When glancing at Jason, the first feature everyone tends to notice is his eyes, which are a piercing blue that seem to glint slightly. His hair is an extremely pale blonde, and is short and slightly slick, although he would describe it as being an “efficient” haircut. His physique is not fantastic; he is of average height for a man of his age, but is not muscular or athletic. He is slim and slight, his skin of the paler variety, with soft features and a rather thin face. His cheekbones are high and his lips are thin. He is handsome enough, yet always looks deadly serious. However, his overall his general look is unimpressive, yet slightly haunting.
As far as clothes are concerned, he generally wears suits with shirts and ties. His clothing is dark and dim, and ensures no attention is drawn to him. The furthest he'll go in terms of decoration is pinstripes, but aside from that everything remains plain. If he’s out for a more casual day, he’ll wear exactly the same, only maybe without the tie. His clothing style may seem simple, but it’s not cheap. He buys clothes of high quality in order to ensure they will last for a long time. Comfort is essential for happiness, he says.
Character Playby: None yet
Personality:
Jason is, in short, a cynical, cold and sadistic man. He is intelligent; not a genius, just very intelligent. He is smart enough to know when to hide this and play dumb, which makes him a cunning and sly person. The fact that his father kept a tight rein on obedience in his house when he was a child means he is a controlled and disciplined man who can keep a straight face whilst the world around him laughs. He is also ambitious, wanting to see how far he can go in life and what the limit of his abilities are. Some may say he pushes himself a little too hard, but he certainly doesn’t believe so. Such thoughts would only deflate his ego.
Whilst these characteristics may make Jason seem like a loner, a man who is his own boss, this is not the case. If he needs to answer to somebody then he will, especially if it ensures his own safety and comfort. He doesn’t believe in arguing with the authorities, again heralding back to his childhood, as, from his experiences, this will only end in tragedy on your side.
Jason also holds his manners very close to him, believing that etiquette is essential everywhere you go. He learned how to be a gentleman when growing up, and now he can’t shake the little habits such as holding doors open for people and referring to his elders as “sir” or “ma’am”.
One more thing: Jason doesn't choose to be cold. He just can't help it.
Likes:
Respectable people: by this he means people who genuinely deserve respect, not celebrities who assume they’re entitled to it.
Equality: he’s a strong supporter of equality of all types, particularly female equality.
Words: Jason has mastered the English language and loves to be cryptic.
French films: there is nothing Jason enjoys more on a dreary Sunday evening than watching a good French film, a taste which he acquired from his mother.
Reading: he reads whenever he has a spare moment, preferring the traditional classics from the world’s greatest authors.
Dislikes:
Dogs: Jason admits to being a little cynophobic and has never enjoyed the company of dogs.
Failure: if there’s one thing he can’t stand, it’s when he fails. A failure often crushes him, and he takes some time to recover.
Numbers: although he is skilled with numbers, he dislikes having to work with them.
Heat: if the temperature outside exceeds 30 degrees, he’s prone to getting bothered and ill-tempered.
His sister: it's always been a rocky relationship between Master and Miss Meade.
Abnormal powers:
Very occasionally, Jason experiences what he has come to refer to as his "demonic state." When faced with extreme anger beyond human emotion he transforms to a sight horrifying to behold. Rows of sharpened fangs line his oversized mouth, his eyes turn as black as the night sky glint with menace and his skin becomes bleached as a bone.
The transformation also seems to affect him mentally to some extent. His temper shortens and all morals he seems to possess fade. The only thought that runs through his head is who is annoying him and how they should be punished.
However, he has concluded that it does nothing to improve his strength, so all in all it's pretty useless unless he's out to scare someone with his gruesome appearance. The full extent of this power has not been tested yet, as Jason does not enjoy being in his demonic state. He fears it and has not yet gained control over it. Thankfully, it is mercifully rare.
His few other demonic powers include the ability to move from one point to another in the blink of an eye, although whether this is through teleportation or actual movement he does not know, and the ability to sense extreme emotions (for more information, see "strengths").
Strengths:
Jason is quick, both mentally and physically. If someone shows the slightest display of emotion, he will notice and recognize it. There is little point in lying to him if you’re weak minded, as he’ll know.
His movement is also incredibly fast. When you blink, he will move. He doesn’t know how he does it; he just assumes it’s some sort of demonic power. The ability to move from one end of the room to the other in a split second is extremely handy.
His demonic state could be classed as a strength, although the only advantage of it is really the fact that it looks so menacing. He doesn't really know how to use it and so normally doesn't use it at all.
Finally, Jason’s mastery of the English language means his questions and sentences can dig deep into the very core of the person who is unfortunate enough to be the butt end of his enquiries. The edge of his tongue is sharp and he regards it as his most effective weapon.
Weaknesses:
Despite his speed, he is not physically strong. If he ends up in a fight, it’s unlikely he’ll win. His slight build holds little muscle and his punches are hardly the type that could deal a one-hit KO.
Jason is also not the bravest person in the world. If overwhelmed, he flees. He will never stay if it puts him at risk.
His demonic state, despite being classed as a strength, can also be a weakness. He has little control over it and can only change himself when he feels angry beyond human emotion. However, it drains his energy tremendously and he needs to rest for quite some time afterwards in order to get back his (little) strength.
But his biggest weakness is probably the fact that he has difficulty displaying his emotions. He grew up in an environment where he was expected to remain neutral at all times, and so doesn’t know how to express his feelings. This has led to many relationships failing miserably.
Fears:
Dogs: as stated earlier, Jason is cynophobic, but he tries to behave as best he can around the animals.
Death, but isn’t everyone afraid of dying?
Going back to Surrey.
Family Tree:
Jonathan Meade; father: alive, aged 55. He’s a successful lawyer, living in England and working internationally. He's a human but he was never really the same person after he realised he'd married a demon.
Claudia Meade; mother: alive, aged 52. A regal woman who enjoys a high social status. She's a demon, and didn't tell her husband this until after their marriage.
Lydia Meade; sister: alive, aged 27. She and Jason have always had a stony relationship, and it's likely that they always will. Although her father is human and her mother is a demon, she appears to be entirely demonic, with no human blood in her. The same applies for her brother-the entire family is baffled by how the genes have worked here. There's one reasonable, yet sinister, explanation...but it all boils down to who their real father is.
History:
Jason grew up with a wealthy family in Surrey, England. However, wealth does not mean happiness. He was always quite distant from his father due to the fact that he was often away from home. Whilst regular families would enjoy walks in the park and outings to town together, he was expected to be seen and not heard in his father’s presence. His was a family that relied heavily on a disciplined household. He was sent to a private school where he worked to the highest standard, but his achievements were ignored. He knew he was intelligent, but this was never acknowledged by his father. Whilst his mother did show some recognition of his talents, they were generally silenced by his father, who kept himself the figure of authority in his house.
Jason felt alone, and soon the child within him began to dissolve. With nobody to play with, nobody to laugh with and nobody to enjoy all the things that small boys should enjoy with, his mind became colder. With each day that passed he became more cynical and bitter, until there was no child-merely the mind of a sardonic adult in the shell of a young boy. His unnatural maturity meant he had few friends. The fact that it kept his parents happy was the one single advantage. His mind aged too quickly and left him with no happy childhood memories.
His teenage days were filled with learning how to play various intruments under the command of his parents and meeting upper class girls around his age in the hope that he may one day marry into somebody with money and a title. He got along with a few, but, much to the dismay of his family, never really expressed an interest in them. He didn't laugh, he rarely smiled. He simply found there was little to laugh or smile about.
When he was eighteen Jason left for university where he studied law in the assumption that he would follow his father’s profession. However, when it became apparent to him that being a lawyer was not his cup of tea he decided to put his law degree into something he wanted. He first took up a post in his local police station as an investigator, but couldn’t face the constant disapproval of his father. He decided to leave Surrey for good, going somewhere where he could follow his ambition away from prying eyes.
He eventually settled for America and began to browse the job vacancies that were suited to what he was looking for. He discovered a post at a town called The Shawl. He enquired within and secured a job as an inspector. A few days later he left Surrey by plane in order to move to The Shawl where he was determined to live his own life, ungoverned by anyone else.
Jason has now been living and working in The Shawl for six months. He has had the honour of becoming a part of Basil Dixon's team.
